STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
This is a stage 3 HSIE unit. This unit provides opportunities for students to investigate the people and processes involved in the legislative, executive and judicial functions of State and Federal governments, highlighting democratic processes. The unit emphasises the skill of acquiring information and civic participation. It focuses on the responsibilities of different levels of government and how parliaments work.
In the library program, students complete a research project based around the unit of work. This unit's research project revolves around Prime Ministers in Australia. Students create either a Keynote or Pages document. Each student is allocated a Prime Minister to research, focusing on how long the Prime Minister led the country, the party to which he/she belonged, a major law or reform he/she implemented and any other interesting facts.
At the end of the term, students will present their work to the class and will be assessed according to a specific rubric.
