What are we going to learn?
This unit is called Our Stories. We are going to read, listen to and watch lots of stories, where the characters talk about different memories they have and how important they are. We are going to talk about the stories and compare them to stories that we could tell about our own lives. We are also going to write a book of our own.
The Lessons
* You will need the worksheets to complete each activity *
1. Look at the picture from Jeannie Baker's book, "Window." Answer the questions about the picture.
2. Answer the questions about the story, "Abel's Moon." Then think of a story that you could tell about your own family.
3. Compare your life to Connie's life in "The River is big". Then draw a place that is special to you.
4. After reading "Memory Bottles", design your own memory bottle and write a memory to go inside it.
5. Answer the questions about the stories, "When your Gran was Little" and "When your Grandad was little."
6.Planning the Story: You will make a story map that shows what your story will be about.
7. Writing the Story : You will write the sentences of your story. Remember that your story needs a beginning, a middle and an end.
8. Typing the story: You will go into the computer lab and type your sentences. Then you will print them out.
9. Illustrating the Story: You will draw pictures to go with the sentences.
10. Publishing the Story: You will put your finished book together and share it with the class.

Your Assessment
You will need to finish each worksheet. Make sure that you do your best work. At the end of the unit, you will combine all the worksheets into a booklet that will be marked. Your published book will become part of a class book that will be available to borrow from the library.
